So, I made my pug some cookies for Christmas (because it's fun!) and this year, I ate more than him as they were so good; so if you want to make a biscuit to go with cheese, these are better than the ones I bought in the store the other week!! - You could add salt if you are not making them for a dog or cat!
So, here is the recipe :
75 g or 1/2 cup rye flour
75 g or 1/2 cup rice flour
80 g or 1/2 cup white or wholemeal flour
30 g or 1/2 cup ground oats
half a teaspoon of baking powder
180 ml or 3/4 cup of water
60 ml or 1/4 cup of olive oil
one tablespoon of dry parsley
one tablespoon of linen seed
optional Christmas extra - a fine grating of parmesan cheese (2 tablespoons)
(Note that you can substitute flours if you don't have the ones listed above)
Mix all together in a bowl, roll the pastry out and cut into different shapes (bone shapes are especially appreciated)!
Put the biscuits on a non-stick tray and bake in the oven at 175°c or 350 °f between 9 and 15 minutes depending on how thick your biscuits are. They should be a nice golden brown when cooked.
Let the biscuits cool down and serve to your puppy when deserved....
Ivan - Panda and Mocha would like to try some of those cookies......but they want extra cheese :)
ReplyDeleteWhat is your pug's name? Such a charming face!
Wishing you all a wonderful and merry Christmas!!
Cheers,
Loi
Hello Loi,
DeleteThank you - extra cheese can be arranged! My Pug's name is Aston (Martin).
Have a wonderful dinner tomorrow with all your guests. Wishing you, Tom, Panda and Mocha a very Merry Christmas. (We have been garden planning all afternoon because of your post!!)
Ivan
Stormy sends kisses...she would love some! Perhaps this weekend!
ReplyDeleteThank you Stormy! Have a wonderful time!
DeleteMerry Christmas to you all.
Ivan (and Aston!)
I took a peak at some of your earlier posts because I was curious about your apple trees (having been born in the Annapolis Valley which is famous for it apples). What a beautiful spot you have in this world of ours! I loved your old-fashioned roses, bees, and hens. And then there are the recipes! Aston looks like he's a comfort creature warming by the stove or in a patch of sunlight. He is so cute and lucky too - to have homemade puppy cookies. Have a wonderful Christmas with your family and friends, and please give Aston a pat or a scratch or whatever it is that he loves!
ReplyDeleteHello,
DeleteHappy you have been reading some more and thank you for the kind comments. Aston is a lucky pug! I shall pass on the scratch under his chin! Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful Christmas also.
Best wishes Ivan (and Aston)
Just when I thought my holiday baking was done! How could I skip Mickey?
ReplyDeleteYourn cake turned out very well, and awaits frosting. Thank you so much for the inspiration, and the help with high altitude baking.
Arg! "Your", not "Yourn". Stiff fingers strike again.
DeleteHello Terry,
DeleteSo happy your cake worked out - hope it tastes alright! Have a wonderful Christmas!
Best wishes Ivan

Good idea, this. I've made dog biscuits before, but only from mixes. Good to have a recipe. Question: where do you get your rye flour? I've been trying to find some, but out our way I'm not having success. I finally found rice flour in an Asian store in Tours, but no rye. Do you get it in Paris?
ReplyDeleteHello Walt,
DeleteThanks. I get the rye flour here (down town Bernay!!) in the health food store (ours has grown to a middle sized one and has a good selection of things - 2.40e a kilo. I buy rice flour, great organic soya sauce and petit épeautre really good for bread also). The little health food stores are good for ordering in stock if they don't have something, but if not near you then Tour maybe?
Merry Christmas to you both.
Ivan
There's a Planète Verte health food store in Montrichard, 10 miles west of us. The problem is that it keeps very irregular business hours and never seems to be open when we go over there. Oh well. Merry Christmas to you too.
DeleteKen
Thanks, Ivan. As Ken says, we'll check out our local health food store soon. It'll be interesting to see if they have it.
DeleteMerry Christmas!
Ohhhh, your dog has a very pretty face, and it is lucky to have a great chef in the house. Greetings!!!!
ReplyDeleteHello,
DeleteThank you, I shall tell him and remind him also!!
Have a wonderful time with your family!
Best wishes and... !Feliz Navidad

Such a cutie! I make peanut butter cookies for my Mojo but I bet he'd like these too. I'm not familiar with linen seed though.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!
Hello Laura,
DeleteLinseed or flaxseed - sorry just my Ivan-isms again, they are really healthy but not needed if hard to get. I have recipe testing here the week after next with L which I am looking forward to.
Happy New Year to you and your family, not forgetting Mojo...
Best wishes Ivan
Flaxseed - yes. It's easy to find here. Will have to give these a try.
DeleteHave fun with the recipe testing. I can hardly wait for her new book!
All the best,
Laura
Guess who's going to try these? My Daddio Ron that's who!
ReplyDeleteYum yum yum.....
DeleteLucky you, I want some more.....
